10 Ways To Ditch Plastic In 2022

Living a plastic-free life can seem like a bit of a daunting prospect – even to the most ardent of environmentalists.
However, thanks to the sheer number of plastic-free products that have entered – and continue to enter - the marketplace, the plastic-free living ideal is becoming more of a reality every day.
If you’re looking to use less single-use plastic in 2022, then you may need some good ideas for alternatives.
Here are our suggestions for some easy swaps:
1. Reusable coffee cups
If you love spending time outdoors, or you’re simply going for a wintery stroll, swap disposable coffee cups for reusable ones. Keep your drink hot and your hands warm with these insulated eco-friendly reusable cups. They’re made in the UK by a small business and sent to you in plastic-free packaging.
2. Ditch the cling film for good
Make 2022 the year that you got rid of cling film and tinfoil and started using reusable food wraps instead. They are such a great option for storing leftovers or for wrapping the kids’ packed lunches. Just wash well with warm soapy water after each use and leave to dry.
3. Prevent ‘baby-wipe burgs’
If you’re a new parent who is keen to avoid contributing to the problem of baby wipes amassing in our sewers, try swapping supermarket wipes for reusable wipes that are washable and made from organic cotton. After use, simply rinse and throw in the washing machine.
4. De-plastic the kitchen
Cloth kitchen roll, reusable wipes and biodegradable cotton sponges make the best eco-friendly alternatives to plastic kitchen products such as disposable kitchen roll (wrapped in plastic) and scourer sponges. They can be rinsed and used again and again and will decompose naturally over time.
You’ll find them in our plastic-free kitchen section.
5. Face up to menstrual waste
Switch to cloth sanitary pads and you could prevent 125-150kg of plastic menstrual waste from going into landfill in your lifetime. It’s a great place to start if you want to help the environment AND want to save money in the long run. Simply rinse in cold water and throw in the washing machine.
6. The obvious one - liquid soap for bars!
There has been a real resurgence in the demand for soap bars in the last couple of years. Some lovely soap varieties include bars for moisturising, sensitive skin and hard-working hands. Browse our plastic-free soap collection.
7. Stay dry with Plastic-Free Deodorant
Harsh chemicals found in many synthetic deodorants can block your pores and cause problems for your sweat glands. Furthermore, most shop bought deodorants are packaged with plastic sticks or sprays. Using a natural, plastic-free deodorant is better for your skin… and the planet.
8. Go green with your cleaning routine
Chemical-ridden cleaning products in plastic bottles can have a detrimental effect our health and the environment.
At plasticfreethings.com, we have the answer to cleaner, greener cleaning. Switch to more planet-kind products in glass bottles or tins – available from our plastic-free cleaning section.
9. Opt for a re-usable facemask
If you find yourself needing to top up your face mask collection then consider these organic cotton face masks which come in a range of designs. Washing and wearing them again and again will prevent disposable ones from entering our landfill and polluting our planet for years to come.
Like all our products, they are made in the UK by a small, ethical business.
10. Look after yourself
